Lung cancer, the most common cause of cancer death in men and women, accounts for about 1/3 of cancer-related deaths in the United States every year, reports Cedars-Sinai. Lung cancer is present as small cell or non-small cell cancer, with small cell the more aggressive of the two types. Non-small cell lung cancer has the higher cure rate, with as much as 80 percent success, depending on the size and if the cells are confined to the lung.
